RJ’s Bacon Explosion Jamaicanization + unporkification

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

So for my first entry of the new year I want to talk about my experience with the wonderous bacon explosion, found here. When I first looked at this, thanks to one of my former coworkers, all I thought was “omfg arterial destruction!” but then today six months later I was in the mood for one.

Unfortunately I happen to be on of those few people blessed with a pork allergy so I had to shake things up a little. On top of that I am also one of those people who do not like BBQ sauce so I had to change it up a bit more! And since I learned to cook from my Jamaican mother I just HAVE to add Walkerswood Jerk Seasoning to EVERYTHING I cook PERIOD. So my version of this explosion of bacon is a little odd. Also I am not big on measurements (blame my mother). But anyways! lets get down to it shall we?

As mentioned earlier I am allergic to pork so I used turkey products for this Bacon Explosion so here is my first step the TURKEY bacon weave!

Next I created my own brand of Jamaicanified Sausage meat. in order to do this I used:

3/4ths pound of ground turkey
1/2 tablespoon of Walkerswood Jerk Seasoning
Some Powdered Garlic
Some Ground Black Pepper
Some Paprika
Some Basil
half a teaspoon of salt (I am not big on salt and half a teaspoon was a bit much)
VERY little Cumin

then I stirred it up and there you have it

Next fried some turkey bacon. In hindsight I should have fried more AND I should not have cut up the turkey bacon before I sliced it. Oh well live and learn

After the frying came time for my wonderful BBQ rub substitute. here it is

1/2 teaspoon Walkerswood Jerk Seasoning
Some Garlic Powder
Some sweet red wine (I used Imperial Red from San Antonio Winery)
Some Paprika
Some Basil
Some Ground Black Pepper
And about 1 tablespoon of Soy Sauce

I then  spread this stuff out over my bacon weave mmm mmm good!

Next I spread out my home made turkey Sausage meat over the turkey Bacon Weave

Then put my fried  bacon over it. Hmm, I REALLY should have fried more.

 IMG_8375

Then Rolled it up!

Then rolled up the turkey bacon weave!

And wrapped it in Aluminum Foil. I wrapped it in Aluminum foil out of habit. I don’t think it is necessary or even advised but I did it.

Next I Shoved it in the oven at 225 degrees. After about 1.5 hours I took it out of the aluminum foil and let it brown for a while (30 minutes or so).

Since I could not figure out what to put on the outside here is the finished product!

Here is the mess!

And here is the first cut.

I really liked it haha but try it at your own risk! I will not be responsible for anyone getting high blood pressure or anything like that!

This is for all those people who can’t eat pork for whatever reason but still want to get a taste of the bacon explosion. If you make it enjoy!

Peace!

Back to the US for RJ

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

So as you all know, from my last entry, I am now back in the US. And boy oh boy am I glad to be here. Sheez, I couldn’t even get good orange juice in Taipei. Jeez. But I never really knew how much I depend on the little things such as red vines, red bull, and orange juice haha.

I am very happy to be back but I was not happy to travel back. Jeez a 12 hour flight! for those of you who have not done this before it is the worst experience ever. All you can do for 12 hours is watch a bunch of crappy movies here is what I watched:

Echelon Conspiracy (crap)
Dragon Ball Evolution (crap)
The first 15 minutes of that Hannah Montana Movie (new level of crappiness)
Eureka Episode where the house goes crazy (pretty good)

And then after that I still hade 7 hours to kill! since I was tired of crap movies. God I really want to take a supersonic jet. I bet one of those concord Jets could have gotten me home much quicker and more comfortably. The only problem is I would have to give all of the money that I earned in the last year to get on one. I really don’t understand why they have to make flying economy class so amazingly uncomfortable but that is the way it is. and 12 hours of it is just too much. I hate flying.

But yes, so what have I been doing since landing in the United States of America. Hmm Hmm Hmm. Well I have been completing www.hendeavor.org. Yes I did that. Well there is a graphics designer doing the…graphics and someone else created the content. But I am the one that put it all together. That’s right! I am the glue.

Other than that I have been playing with my new Palm Pre! I really really love it. There are two problems that I have with it though. First, it has very low processing power. It takes forever (forever=2 second load time) to load up apps. And Second I think it is slightly too small but for some people that would not be a problem. Other than these two minor issues the phone is amazing. It is like an iPhone except I don’t have a hateful relationship with it. I don’t feel like it is furthering some agenda to get itunes on every PC in the world so that somehow Apple can take over the world and spy on everyone (like in Echelon Conspiracy).

I love the Pre though. You want to put music on it? plug it into your computer and drag the music over using WINDOWS EXPLORER or whatever the mac thing is called. No random application between my computer and the phone. If I want to do more than one thing at a time I can do it! If I want to take out the battery I just pop off the back and take off the battery.

The last thing I love about the Palm Pre shows that I am somewhat of a tech elitist. I like how it is not all that intuitive. If you don’t know the gestures to move around within an application your pretty screwed with the phone. I like that haha. I want people to have to know something in order to use the phone. Apple makes things too easy! but whatever.

But yeah I’m back! in my home country it’s wonderful.

If you are new to my blog, which you probably aren’t, you are probably wondering why the US is my home country but my blog is called the Ranting Jamaican. Well both of my parents are Jamaican and therefore I am. But I have actually never even set foot on that little Island called Jamaica. But that is an issue I hope to rectify in the near future.

Anyways! Peace out ya’ll and the best part of traveling is coming home!

RJ’s Energy Drink Roundup

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

So a few weeks ago I finally found Taipei’s equivalents to red bull. And boy were they effective. I tried four different energy drinks. Since I don’t know how to read most of the characters in their names I will just show you the pictures. It is unfortunate that I discovered them so late, but oh well. Here they are in order of effectiveness!

the first one is intense! I mean INTENSE. when you drink this you will be WIDE AWAKE for hours. It also caused my chest to feel funny and my heart to feel like it was beating irregularly. I would think this thing is about (red bull)*5 when it comes to strength. So I think in this case you may want to stay away from the purple stuff except for extreme circumstances.

The second one is about double the strength of Red Bull. It is pretty intense and does not make my chest feel like it is going to explode.

the second to last one is about the same as Red Bull.

And the last one is slightly weaker than red bull.

As for taste all of these taste  much worse than Red Bull. Imagine Red Bull with a syrupy consistence and no carbonation. In the case of the purple stuff they added a grape flavor so it sort of tastes like Dimetapp. But it is REALLY effective so who cares.

All these energy drinks are great substitutes for Red Bull when you are in Taiwan but none of them taste as good! If you really want Red Bull you will have to hop on a plane to Japan. I am not sure if they have it in China. so Japan is your safest bet. And as soon as you land in Japan you get a 90 day visitors visa so you can even stay a while.

Anyways, my time is limited since I will be leaving on Monday. Peace out ya’ll!
