RJ on the Nexus One After Using it a While

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

So I have had my Nexus One for a little while and NO I have not migrated back to my iPhone. In fact my 16gb iPhone 3GS is still up for sale on ebay. Good riddance Apple, hello Google and HTC.

Although the touch screen seems to not be quite as good as the iPhone 3GS I have really enjoyed the extra customizations that Android allows over the iPhone. With the iPhone you are stuck with the built in Keyboard, browser, or messaging applications. But this is not the case with Android. I have experimented with Smart Keyboard Pro, Opera Mobile, and Handcent SMS.

I REALLY love Smart Keyboard Pro because the built in keyboard that came with the Nexus One left much to be desired. Opera Mobile sucked and so did the other browser replacement called Dolphin. Handcent SMS is a messaging program that looks a lot like the iPhone’s built in messaging program and from what I have seen of it is really a cosmetic improvement over  built in SMS application.

My one gripe is that I just had to have my Nexus One replaced. The ear piece speaker just died on me. Although this sucked, I really want to let it be known that the return was extremely easy and after talking with HTC support (yep HTC supports the device, not Google) I felt like the transaction was going to go well. And it did, the ear piece died on monday the 29th of March and today the 31st I am enjoying my 100% functional replacement phone.

So the Ranting Jamaican is very happy with his new Nexus One and very happy with HTC customer care.

Next time I’ll share some pictures from my 7-day cruise to mexico!

Peace Out ya’ll!

Finally… I can afford to eat

So last week Friday I finally got my financial aid from Fordham. 2 months late and 14 pounds lost but whatever I’m not complaining too much. As it turns out this was a problem for all of Fordham. At first I was fine with this explanation from the Dean of Associated Programs but as it turned out some departments handled it better than others.

At the Fordham Law school they arranged emergency 0% interest loans for all of the affected students. This, as it turns out is a program that is run by main campus financial aid, but this was somehow not available for business school students. It’s things like these why I feel like I really need to leave this school. This shows that the business school and Fordham in general is not doing a good job taking care of their students.

They say that all of these issues are due to a system change. But I worked in IT, if these screw ups were caused by a system change then there are two possibilities, either the people were not sufficiently trained on the system, or the system was not properly tested.

The fact that 2 months into the semester there are still students that do not have their proper financial aid is inexcusable. It’s not like this is some podunk low cost of living town. This is New York where a hamburger can end up costing you 15 dollars! You can’t survive on a budget of zero here! it is just impossible. But Fordham’s Graduate School of Business seemingly expected us to do it.

WTH is going on with Fordham’s financial aid?

So as you may know from reading my blog, I am currently a student at the Fordham Graduate School of Business Administration. Guess what? I now dislike it. They seemingly are having one hell of a problem with their financial aid system. To make a long story short. I have lost 12 pounds in 2 months because my financial aid was screwed up and I can’t afford to eat. And Fordham has done nothing about it.

Every time I buy my one meal a day I am putting myself further in credit card debt because of those idiots over there. Now I’m normally not one to complain, oh wait yes I am! Anyways I have been trying to get them to fix it since August 20th and nothing has been done. Well that’s not true, they have told me that it would be fixed by certain times and then the time came and nothing. So other than being mislead either intentionally or unintentionally, I don’t know which, nothing has been done. yay!

If I die from malnourishment before the end of the year you all know what happened. I’ll be sure to write a blog entry from the hospital bed. Anyways I am going to go order a 10 dollar large pizza because that will be 2-3 days of food. yay! 10 more dollars of credit card debt. did I mention the 4000 dollar payment is due on wednesday? oh I didn’t? well it is. I am now welcoming myself to the wonderful world of credit card interest. What a wonderful world it is indeed.

That’s all the Starving Jamaican has to say. peace out!
