RJ’s random memory of days gone by….

October 6th, 2009

It was quite a while ago, my junior year in high school I believe when this happened. I was on the Cheetahs track club and we were in wonderful Pocatello Idaho for an indoor track meet. It was very interesting running on an indoor track but that is totally besides the point.

On the last night me and three other guys were out getting some snacks….at 2am. Now let me set the stage. As some of you may know, having probably been to or heard of Pocatello Idaho, it is like 99.99999% white (this is an exaggeration of course but you get my point). I am Black (Jamaican really but whatever I am not nitpicky), one of the other guys was black and then the two others were Mexican. So we were kind of an odd bunch out at 2AM in nearly 100% Caucasian Pocatello Idaho. So anyways as we were walking out of the gas station’s convenience store I noticed a truck pull around the back of the gas station and stop right in line with us.

now I happen to have some random special abilities one of them is that I can FEEL danger, mostly due to mild paranoia. So I told my friends”I think that truck is going to try and run us over.” And then the high beams came on and I said it again. and you know what they did? THEY LAUGHED AT ME. But oh was I laughing later. My second somewhat special ability is that I do not freeze in the face of danger I immediately get the hell out of dodge. As soon as I heard the tires screeching I was gone! I was sure I ran a Usain Bolt time up that hill. I was 50 meters up a hill when I turned around just in time to see my friends barely jump out of the way of the truck as it flew off the curb. then I watched as they ran into a parking lot as the truck drove through it looking for them.

Four or five minutes later, the truck having given up the search, my friends walked out of the parking lot. As the people in the truck saw them come out they slammed on the breaks and started to reverse. But then they thought better of it and left.

When my friends finally got up the hill all sweaty and scared I laughed at them and said “I told you so!” haha… that was fun.

Gah! No Smallville for RJ

October 2nd, 2009

Man I am disappointed. Smallville is my only real guilty pleasure. I know the show is crap but I love it anyways. So I faithfully watch every episode ON TV, mind you. I am that faithful to the show. I watch all the CW’s stupid commercials and everything. Then today! (Smallville comes on at 8pm on Fridays now) I turn on my TV and what do I see? Major League Baseball! What is up with that, baseball? If there is one thing I hate on TV it is baseball. Baseball has got to be the most boring sport ever made by man (golf is not a sport it is a game). And they had to put it on this friday from 7pm to 10pm. What is up with that?

But you know what the worst part of it is? I have no idea when I can watch this weeks episode of smallville because after looking at the guide it is not rescheduled and everything online says it is airing tonight. So those of you on the west coast will probably get to watch it but I am SOL. wtf man this is so unfair. I was looking forward to this all day long and now I am disappointed. oh well. At least I have other things to keep me occupied.

It’s been a while eh?

September 30th, 2009

Well it has been a while since I had the time to write a post that is worthy of this wonderful non internet explorer 6.0 compatible website (yeah that’s right screw IE6 and earlier). But anyways since August 24th I have moved into my wonderful apartment in Brooklyn and have started business school.

I get the distinct impression that the Fordham MBA program was put together as an after thought. The entire MBA program is housed on the 6th floor of their Lincoln Center campus, the program is woefully understaffed (evidenced by the complete lack of response to like 60% of my emails), and the dean doesn’t even have an MBA. But that’s neither here nor there. The Professor’s seem to be very good and that’s really what matters.

So the other day I almost started to laugh out loud in class. We were having a discussion about US treasury bonds and how China and Japan combined had bought over 1 trillion dollars of them. But then my professor said something interesting. She said “the risk on US treasury bonds are considered to be zero. If the US is unable to pay they can just settle the debt with more treasury bonds.” I found this to be hilarious. Imagine if I could do that with the credit card companies or you could do that with anyone you borrowed money from. It would be a disaster! But that’s how things work for the US, according to my professor. I don’t know about you but I really hope that never happens. I doubt china would be happy with getting more treasury bonds to settle their debt. Oh well I guess I’ll just start learning Chinese now!

zài jiàn! (that’s goodbye!) peace out folks.
