RJ is pissed at Internet Explorer 6 7 and 8!

June 27th, 2009

Now as you can guess from the name of my site I am usually pissed off about something. But usually it is stupid stuff that really doesn’t have anything to do with anything really. But today is something different! This probably affects many many people.

I am currently working on a website for a non profit called the Harambe Endeavor. And as part of the temporary page there is a small text blurb on the lower portion of the website that is not fully opaque. This is an opacity setting of 80%. Here is the text as it shows up in Internet Explorer versions 6, 7, and 8.

harambetextIE

And here is the text as it appears in Firefox 3. notice anything?

harambetextFF3

The text as rendered by Firefox looks nice and smooth, very easy to read. But the text rendered by Internet explorer looks as though the computer was a 3 year old with a marker and is somewhat difficult to read.

I have scoured Google for quite some time looking for a solution to this issue but I can find none. The only option is to add this text into the site as a picture. Which I do not want to do, because a search engine can’t read a picture and also it is just tacky. I have seen multiple complaints about it on the internets but no solutions. And this problem dates back to IE 6 probably! what the hell Microsoft Internet Explorer Development Team?! You need to get your act together!

Just to let you know how much of an issue this is, I tested this website on 7 different browsers. here’s the list:

Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18783
Internet Explorer 7
Internet Explorer 6
Safari 4.0 (530.17)
Google Chrome 2.0.172.33
Opera 9.64
Firefox 3.0.11

And the only browsers that renders text so crappily are, you guessed it, the Internet Explorer browsers. I think people need to stop using Internet Explorer so that they will get their act together and start fixing these stupid issues. Once Microsoft sees these other browsers encroaching on their market share more and more they will have to do something.

I should mention that Cleartype works perfectly when the div is not opaque but I want a translucent effect. But it seems like that will be impossible.

I think that the United States should follow Europe’s lead. In Europe it seems Windows 7 will be shipping without a browser. This means that computer manufacturers such as Dell and HP will be choosing which browsers to install based on their customers desires. I think it is safe to say that their more tech savvy customers will want Firefox or some other browser installed on their System over Internet Explorer. This type loss in market share would really light the fire under the Internet Explorer Development teams ass and maybe get things going.

Oh and another stupid issue is the way that Internet Explorer put borders around objects such as divs or tables. The border runs along the INSIDE of the table instead of the outside so when you put a picture all the way to the right of the div or table it covers the border. How stupid is that? and once again IE is the only browser that renders that way. fark! what are they trying to do to me? sheezus! oh well whatever.

Jeez I am starting to dislike our friends over in Seattle (Microsoft). Haha as I sit here typing this blog entry on Windows Live writer, on Windows Vista SP2, with IE 8 open right behind this window. GAH! they have me in their grasp! nooooooo………

If anyone happens to know a workaround other than replacing the text with an image please post it in a comment I would be eternally grateful.

whatever ya’ll. As our friend Spock would say “live long an prosper”. Peace out.

RJ on rottentomatoes.com

June 26th, 2009

I am pissed at rottentomatoes.com or maybe I am pissed at movie reviewers in general, I don’t know. What I know is that I am pissed. I recently watched two great movies, Terminator Salvation and Transformers: Revenge of the fallen. I went into the movie with the right mindset and judged the movies based on what they were supposed to be and they were great. But on Rotten Tomatoes they were not that great. Terminator Salvation is currently rated at 33% and Transformers:Revenge of the Fallen is rated at a paltry 22% .WTF?

Below you will see rotten tomatoes “consensus” on Terminator Salvation

Consensus: With storytelling as robotic as the film’s iconic villains, Terminator Salvation offers plenty of great effects but lacks the heart of the original films.

WTF? lacks heart? these people obviously fell asleep at the midnight showing because not only did it have the heart of the original films the whole damn film was about the human heart, physically and metaphorically. These critics they are ridiculous. I don’t know who writes the reviews for these movies on rotten tomatoes, I think the first ones are by approved critics and the rest are by random people, but whoever they are they are crazy wrong.

Now below I have added in the “consensus” on rotten tomatoes for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Consensus: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a noisy, underplotted, and overlong special effects extravaganza that lacks a human touch.

underplotted? overlong special effects? human touch? yes I agree! but this is what makes the movie so great! jeez have these people ever actually seen the original transformers cartoon? Optimus Prime’s trailer would fly out from behind a bush when he transformed. the plots were all about stopping whatever extremely stupid thing Megatron came up with. You don’t go into a transformers movie expecting the plot to be on par with something like Shawshank Redemption. It is a friggin movie with robots who transform into cars for Christ’s sake. whatever I am pissed.

When I looked at the yahoo ratings for Transformers 2 I got even more annoyed with “professional” movie critics. Professional critics gave the movie a C-, while yahoo users gave it an A-. If you are getting paid for your opinion your opinion had better be based on what people seeing the movie will think damnit! otherwise why would I bother reading you crap! When I went in to see Transformers 2 I turned off my brain and prepared for the wonderful special effects, stupid humor, and plot that would make no sense. That is what the movie is supposed to be!  here is the yahoo page for Transformers 2.

Gah! I hate professional movie critics, in fact I hate critics in general. I have gone to so many friggin super expensive restaurants that got good ratings from these so called critics and guess what the restaurants sucked. I want to get paid for my BS opinions. It is my opinion that Averatec makes the best laptop ever! go out and buy one and see if you think that was a good statement.

Whatever that is all. This is the Ranting Jamaican signing off from Taipei, Taiwan.

P.S.
please don’t go buy an Averatec laptop. Well you can buy their netbook. Their netbook is just a rebranded MSI Wind. But other than that STAY AWAY! I had an Averatec a while back, I think it gave me second degree burns on my lap.

RJ on Michael Jackson’s Death

June 26th, 2009

Jeez this sucks, I just heard that Michael Jackson died today (well yesterday actually but the 15 hour time difference here kind of makes things weird). I don’t know if people go to a better place when they die or not but I would take the void over the last few years of his life. The media never left him alone, until he moved to Bahrain that is. Poor guy.

Although I hate how the media had to comment about everything he did, I must admit that some small part of me will miss hearing about the strange things he is doing. Oh well what can you do.

But the worst part of this is that he won’t be making anymore music. I had sort of assumed that he was done making new music, that is until I heard about the tours that he had scheduled, but now it is a much more permanent situation. But it was really obvious that his music was his life and that is over now.

Well Mr. Jackson, safe travels on your journey, wherever it leads you.

Peace out……
