Off To Thailand Again

December 20th, 2010

I am sitting in the airport waiting for our plane to Thailand. We’re taking Sri Lanka airlines.

Last trip we went to the western side of Thailand. Phuket, Koh Phi Phi, Ao nang, etc. This time we will be on the east going to Kohl’s Samui and its surrounding islands. I’ll be sure to update when I get to Thailand if I can. Otherwise, I’ll have lot’s of pictures and updates when I get back to Hong Kong on the 27th!

The plane is boarding I have to go. Peace out!

Google’s Nexus S

December 13th, 2010

So about 8 days ago Google finally announced the Samsung Nexus S. And for those of you who have not been reading up on this it will be available in the US three days from now on December 16th, 2010. This is really, really great…. for people on T-Mobile. Gah why does google to this to me!? They should have made Samsung make it into a Penta-band HSPA phone so that it would work on all carriers! But what do I know? That might have dramatically increased the price or something…. Whatever, its still a gripe!

But anyways I am still holding out hope that it will magically work on AT&T 3G just like I have read that the T-Mobile Vibrant, another Galaxy S Phone, happens to work on both AT&T and T-Mobile 3G. But we shall see…

Never in my life have I wished I was on T-Mobile more than right now. But alas it is not possible for me to switch. When I get back to the US I will not  be able to march into a Best Buy and buy my very own Nexus S. But the differences between the Nexus S and my Nexus One do not warrant a change from AT&T to T-Mobile and the termination fees that would accompany it.

I mean really, what’s the difference between the Nexus S and the Nexus One (N1)? Nearly all of the differences come down to the software.  And very soon after the Nexus S is released the Nexus One will have the same Gingery goodness that is Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Hopefully the Nexus S, as with the N1, will be released in a form that can take advantage of AT&T’s 3G will be released in March or April. Then I will be able to enjoy a 4″ Super AMOLED display, and the blazing fast hummingbird processor. I don’t think the Gyroscope, front facing camera, and NFC chip will matter too much to me.

The main reason why I even want the Nexus S is Samsung’s claim that the Super AMOLED display performs 75% better in direct sunlight than the un-Super AMOLED in my N1.

Also I am hoping that there are no issues with the touch screen on this new Nexus  phone. It is sort of ridiculous that there is a publicly known problem with the ONLY interface available on the N1. But hopefully when I get back to the United States I can exchange it for another N1 that has a properly functioning touch screen.

But yeah, if you haven’t seen the review yet head over to engadget and read up!

The Burger Room

November 26th, 2010

Today we went for a long walk up a mountain today. I wanted to check out a trail at the Tai Tam Country Park. I figured this long sojourn up the side of a mountain (2.5 miles to the trail and then back), warranted a slight indulgence.

We had read on the internet about a place called the Burger Room right near where we live in Causeway Bay. Since we wanted to reward ourselves for a long walk we felt that cheeseburgers and French Fries were the way to go.

When we got to the Burger Room we were in time to get their Tea Set. Restaurants having “Tea Sets” is quite common in Hong Kong. Basically you can get a tea set when you come into the restaurant in between the lunch and dinner hours. Burger Room’s tea set is available between 2:30pm and 6:00pm.

For 38 HKD + 8 HKD for cheese (~6 dollars) we got the meal pictured below (we ordered two of these).

This is their mini burger. The mini burger is about 1.5 times as filling as a whopper from Burger King. Their normal burgers are gargantuan behemoths of heart attack inducing meat and oils, so its good we got a chance to get the tea set. The mini burger is ONLY offered with the tea set, at least it wasn’t on the menu.

This Burger was EXTREMELY good though. It actually tasted healthy in a really good sort of way. Now when I say it tastes healthy I am comparing it to other burgers, not vegetables or some other actually healthy food.

The reason for the healthy taste, if you want to call it that, is that the beef patty has VERY little fat in it. I really, really, really loved this burger. If you are more into burgers than me I would definitely recommend trying one of their larger burgers. But for those of us that just want a taste the mini-burger tea set is just fine. You get a REALLY good burger, without the guilt associated with eating 1000 calories or more of heart attack inducing goodness!

In case you are thinking of going there the Burger Room is located at:

G/F, 7 Caroline Hill Road
Causeway Bay, Hong Kong

For those of you not used to Hong Kong addresses, the G/F just means it’s on the ground floor.
