RJ on Product Branding and Stuff

So as I sit here watching Farscape (yeah I said it Farscape). I am thinking about the events of today. Today we went to Wu Fen Pu. It is a day market that specializes in selling clothing. You can find pretty much any kind of clothes that you can think of here, provided that you don’t want any heavy winter jackets of course.

But back to the issue at hand. As I was looking at a shirt that I was thinking about buying I noticed some writing on the pocket. it said Aramni. Yes that is right Aramni, not Armani. It was a cheap knock off! and they stuck the brand on the pocket! I was pissed because other than that it was a good looking shirt. I mean what are they expecting? that someday they will become popular and that their branding will help them to do it?

But this stupid instance of branding got me thinking about branding of clothing and products in general. After I pay for a product I then have to be a walking billboard for the people who made that product? I feel like I am getting swindled! Why do I have to pay in order for the opportunity to advertise for some stupid company.

I understand that some people see the brand that they paid for as being a status symbol and therefore would like people to know that they have enough money to buy it. But in my opinion that, just like the $999.99 “I am Rich” iPhone app, is retarded. That app was pulled down last year and was only available for 1 day. But eight jerk-offs bought it.

At least athletes get paid to wear the clothing and equipment that they use. But me I get nothing! I have to pay for everything myself. That is just wack!

After I pay for something I just want to wear it or use it not advertise! But no! it is nearly impossible to find things without branding. I don’t understand it! I hope one day a large number of people will get pissed enough to do something about it. But until then I will have to continue looking for random clothing that has no branding.

Peace out.
